A Pixel is the smallest unit of color on a computer screen or digital image. Many pixels together create an image. When there are fewer pixels, the image may look blockly, showing the squares of individual color. The first video games were made for 8 bit and 16 bit consoles and computers which had very blocky pixelated images–like the original Super Mario Brothers.
This week, we are going to be creating art using pixels. Which means our art will be made with squares and rectangles–only vertical and horizontal lines!

LEGO Pixel Art
If you have LEGOs at home, you can create images with them! You can arrange your LEGOs flat on the table or attach them to a LEGO board to create your image. Like these:

You can also stack your LEGOs to create images or designs. When you stack them, you end up with a design that can stand up on its own–like a sculpture. Check out these stacked LEGO images:

When you finish making your image, you can take a screenshot and upload it to Seesaw–if you can’t figure out how to share your work, just enjoy the process of making it!

You can figure out how to design your image using LEGOs and the pixilart website, trying different combinations of blocks until you get the shape you want. It takes some practice to figure out how to pixelate an image. If you want some help, you can find many examples of pixel art online along with instructions for creating different designs.
